Did the government give an extension to file 2019 income tax returns?

YES.  Due to the pandemic, the federal government extended the due date to July 15, 2020; most states also extended their due date as well. You can read more about the federal deadline on the IRS website, here.

Taxes During the COVID-19 Pandemic

If I don’t have a computer, how can I get my taxes done during the Coronavirus pandemic?

During normal times, there is usually only one meeting to prepare taxes for a person without a computer.

During the pandemic, there are three meeting points, of which all can be conducted without being face to face:

  1. Exchange of paper information
    1. The client can drop off their tax information at our office, through the mail slot in the door, without contact.
    2. The client can mail their tax information to our office.
  2. Questions/answers are handled over the phone
  3. Final Review & Signing
    1. The client can come to our office, the signature documents are handed through the mail slot in the door to the client, signed and returned.
    2. The paper copy is handed to the client through the mail slot in the door.

How can I get my small business’ taxes done during the pandemic?

Taxes are prepared based on the completion of the proper accounting for the business transactions for the period.  We first review the accounting records, then prepare the tax returns keeping in constant communication with the client during the process.  The information is exchanged through the Filipek & Company Secure File Pro Client Portal.

General Questions Regarding Tax Returns

Where can I find someone to do taxes for a senior citizen?

Filipek & Company can do tax returns for seniors.  We are not currently offering services for shut in senior citizens unless they were our client prior to 2019.

What factors go into determining the cost of an accountant doing taxes?

Fixed Costs – the proportionate cost of operating a business including rent, utilities, software, labor factor into determining our minimum price for personal tax return preparation.  Complexity determines the time required to prepare the return and time charges are added to the fixed costs to determine final pricing.

Do you do taxes for U.S. and Canadian Tax Returns?

We only complete U.S. tax returns. However, we do refer clients to qualified preparers of Canadian Taxes.
